Baked Apples with Cinnamon and Rum Sauce
Baked apples have been delighting us since our grandmothers time. They were usually stuffed with dried fruit, honey, and nuts and then baked in the oven. Rum wasnt typically used back then, but it pairs wonderfully with baked apples, especially when turned into a delicious sauce that is poured over the apples before baking. This dessert is simple to prepare, making it suitable even for those who arent very skilled in the kitchen but still want to impress their guests with something special.

Ingredients
-
6 pieces Apple, fresh
-
40 g Butter, unsalted
-
6 pieces Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
240 ml Juice, apple
Sauce
-
100 g Sugar, brown
-
120 ml Alcohol, Rum
-
1 pinch Salt, table
-
0.5 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
4 pieces Spices, cloves, ground
Steps
-
In a medium-sized saucepan, add brown sugar, rum, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Place it on the stove and heat slowly while stirring occasionally. Once all the sugar has dissolved, cook for another 3 to 4 minutes to create a thick and sticky sauce. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
-
Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Wash the apples and use a round corer (you can also use a spoon or knife) to remove the stems and cores. Be careful not to pierce through the apples.
-
Place the cored apples in a greased deep baking dish. Add a small piece of butter into each opening, then insert a cinnamon stick into each apple. Pour the rum sauce over the apples. Add apple wine to the baking dish, then place it in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Baste the apples several times during baking with the sauce that forms in the dish.
-
Once the apples are nicely softened inside, remove them from the oven. Serve them on plates and drizzle with the sauce from the baking dish. Optionally, add a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of chilled whipped cream alongside, and serve the warm dessert immediately.
