Baked Apples with Dried Fruit
Baked apples are a simple homemade specialty that our grandmothers used to prepare. They are usually stuffed with walnuts, hazelnuts, and raisins or jam, but they are also excellent with a filling made from dried fruit.

Ingredients
-
1 piece Orange, fresh
-
0.5 dl Alcohol, Rum
-
100 g Cranberries, dried
-
100 g Raisins
-
8 pieces Apple, fresh
-
100 g Sugar, white
-
0.5 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
80 g Butter, unsalted
Steps
-
Wash the orange thoroughly under running water and dry it with a kitchen towel. Finely grate the zest, cut the fruit in half, and squeeze the juice from both halves. In a bowl, mix the orange juice, rum, and orange zest. Add the raisins and cranberries and let the dried fruit soak in the liquid for about 30 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Wash the apples well and cut off the tops. Use a round cutter (you can use a spoon or knife) to remove the cores. Be careful not to pierce through the apples.
-
Line a baking dish with parchment paper and arrange the apples on it. Drain the raisins and cranberries and mix them with sugar and cinnamon. Stuff the apples with the prepared fruit filling. Place a small piece of butter on top of the filling. Bake the apples in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until they are completely soft inside.
-
Serve the apples while still warm on plates. Optionally, sprinkle them with powdered sugar before serving.
