Baked Sauerkraut with Chops and Sausages
Sauerkraut, spicy sausage, and pork chops form the base of this delicious and very simple homemade dish that is baked in the oven. It pairs well with numerous side dishes, from boiled potatoes to bread dumplings. When youre in a hurry or dont feel like cooking, bread is also an excellent choice to help clean your plates and baking dish.

Ingredients

1.2 kg Sauerkraut

Steps

Place the sauerkraut in a colander and taste it. If it seems too sour, quickly rinse it under running water and drain well.

Peel the onion, finely chop it, and sauté it in heated fat. Add the drained sauerkraut and quickly fry it to soften it slightly. Season with cumin and bay leaf, then remove from heat.

Wash the chops, dry them, and season with pepper and salt. Quickly sear them on both sides in a pan with heated oil. Cut the sausages into slices or rings as desired.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease a baking dish with fat or oil. Spread a third of the sautéed sauerkraut on the bottom and place the seared chops on top. Spread another third of the sauerkraut over the meat and scatter the sliced sausages on top. Finish with the last layer of sauerkraut. Pour 2 dl of water into the baking dish, then place it in the preheated oven for 1 hour. If necessary, add a little more water during baking.

When the dish is ready, the sauerkraut on top should be lightly browned, and there should be no liquid left in the baking dish. Serve with potatoes, bread dumplings, or bread.
