Ingredients
-
500 g Dough, puff
-
250 g Walnuts
-
60 g Sugar, brown
-
1 teaspoon Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
175 g Butter, unsalted
-
90 ml Honey
-
35 ml Juice, lemon
Steps
-
Roll out the phyllo dough very thinly and stretch it, then cut it into 24 equal-sized rectangles. In a bowl, mix the walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Melt the butter in a small pot and set it aside.
-
Grease the baking dish with butter and line it with one sheet of dough. Brush the dough with butter. Repeat the process with five more sheets of dough, brushing each with butter. Then sprinkle one-third of the walnut mixture over the dough. Repeat the process two more times, using six sheets of dough each time, brushing each with butter, and sprinkling every sixth sheet with the walnut mixture. Finish with six sheets of dough, brushing each with butter.
-
Preheat the oven to 220°C. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges, then use a sharp knife to make several cuts halfway through to create 20 square pieces. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Then reduce the oven temperature to 180°C and bake for another 15 minutes, until the top is crispy and nicely baked. Remove from the oven.
-
In a small pot, heat the honey and lemon juice until they combine into a liquid mixture. Pour the mixture over the hot baklava and let it cool in the baking dish for two hours. Then cut the baklava into the pre-marked sizes and serve.
