Ingredients
-
80 ml Oil, vegetable oil, canola
-
1 piece Onion, raw
-
500 g Meat, pork, neck
-
1.7 kg Cabbage, fresh
-
pieces Salt, table
-
2 cups Water
Steps
-
Clean the cabbage, wash it, and cut it into strips. Wash the meat, dry it with paper towels, and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Peel the onion and chop it finely.
-
Pour half of the oil into a larger pot and heat it slightly. Add the onion and sauté it, stirring occasionally, until it becomes translucent. Add the meat and cook it with the onion over moderate heat until it is nicely browned on all sides.
-
Add the chopped cabbage to the pot. Mix the ingredients well and pour in water (or broth). Season with salt and pepper to taste, and optionally add a little paprika. Partially cover the pot and let the dish simmer over moderate heat for 60 minutes or until the cabbage softens and most of the water evaporates.
-
Once the cabbage has softened, pour the remaining oil into the pot. Lower the heat slightly and cook the dish in the covered pot, stirring occasionally, for another 20 to 30 minutes. The cabbage should brown slightly, but be careful not to let it burn.
-
Serve the prepared dish on plates. Accompany it with bread, polenta, or boiled potatoes.
