Ingredients
-
320 g Bread, wheat
-
0.25 l Milk, skimmed
-
1 piece Onion, raw
-
0.5 pinch Parsley, fresh
-
1 piece Egg, fresh
-
100 g Wheat flour, white, multi-purpose
-
100 g Meat, pork, smoked bacon
-
1 spoon Butter, unsalted
Steps
-
Peel and wash the onion, then finely chop it. Wash and chop the parsley. Cut the bacon into small pieces. Melt the butter in a pot and sauté the onion until it turns golden. Add the parsley and bacon and cook for another five minutes, then remove the pot from the heat.
-
Cut the bread rolls into small cubes and place them in a large bowl. Pour the sautéed onion with bacon and parsley over the bread. Beat the egg in the milk and pour the mixture over the bread mixture. Mix well and let it sit until the mixture is well soaked with the milk.

Once the mixture is soaked, add the flour and mix again. Then, with wet hands, shape dumplings the size of an apple.
-
Place a large pot of salted water on the stove. When the water boils, add the bread dumplings and cook them over moderate heat for 15 minutes.
-
Serve the cooked dumplings in a serving dish or on a plate alongside the prepared meal.

Advice
Instead of bread rolls, you can also use day-old bread. You can omit the bacon if you want less calorie-dense dumplings. Instead of balls, you can shape a loaf and wrap it in a kitchen towel that has been evenly sprinkled with breadcrumbs beforehand. Cook the loaf and slice it into rings about two to three centimeters thick.
