Ingredients
-
pieces Butter, unsalted
-
500 g Bread, wheat
-
2 piece Apple, fresh
-
pieces Lemon zest, fresh
-
0.5 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
0.25 teaspoons Spices, nutmeg, ground
-
4 pieces Egg, fresh
-
600 ml Milk, whole milk
-
100 g Sugar, brown
-
2 handfuls Walnuts
-
50 g Butter, unsalted
Steps
-
Cut the bread into small cubes and place them in a large bowl. Wash and grate the apple (discard the stem and core). Add it to the bowl with the bread, along with the grated zest and spices. Mix the ingredients well in the bowl.
-
Grease a deep baking dish with butter, then pour in the mixture of bread, apples, and spices. Spread the ingredients evenly across the bottom of the dish. In a bowl, whisk the eggs and mix them with the milk and 1/2 of the sugar. Pour this mixture over the ingredients in the baking dish. Let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak well.
-
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Finely chop the walnuts and sprinkle them over the ingredients in the baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining sugar over the top of the pudding and distribute the butter pieces. Bake the pudding in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes. If the top browns too quickly, cover it with a piece of aluminum foil.
-
Serve the pudding while it is still warm or let it cool to room temperature before serving. Optionally, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a spoonful of cold whipped cream on the side.
