Ingredients
-
500 g Bread, wheat
-
200 g Meat, pork, smoked ham
-
200 g Cheese, Cheddar
-
6 pieces Egg, fresh
-
750 ml Milk, whole milk
-
1 teaspoon Mustard
-
pieces Salt, table
-
pieces Butter, unsalted
Steps
-
Cut the bread into slightly larger pieces and the ham into slightly smaller cubes. Coarsely grate the cheese.
-
Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk them well with a hand whisk, then mix in the milk, mustard, salt, and pepper.
-
Grease a deep baking dish or a pan that can also go in the oven (25 cm in diameter) well with butter. Place half of the bread cubes in the dish and sprinkle half of the ham and half of the cheese over them. Follow with the remaining bread cubes and sprinkle the rest of the ham over them. Pour the egg mixture over the ingredients in the dish. Gently press the bread cubes into the egg mixture with a spoon so they absorb the liquid. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
-
If we don't have time, we can bake the pudding immediately in a preheated oven, but it's even better to let it rest a bit before baking (preferably store it in the fridge overnight).
-
Bake the pudding in the oven, preheated to 180°C, for 45-50 minutes.

Advice
If we use pressed ham, we quickly fry it in a pan beforehand so that the cubes become crispy. If the bread has a very hard crust, remove it and use only the soft part for the pudding.
