Ingredients
-
900 g Broccoli, fresh
-
60 g Meat, pork, smoked bacon
-
80 g Flour, Wheat, bread flour
-
5 pieces Egg, fresh
-
125 ml Sweet cream
-
250 ml Milk, whole milk
-
0.5 teaspoons Spices, pepper, black
-
1.5 teaspoons Salt, table
-
2 teaspoons Mustard
-
230 g Cheese, Cheddar
Steps
-
Clean the broccoli, separate it into smaller florets, wash, and drain. Place a larger pot with 1 liter of water on the stove, adding 1 teaspoon of salt. Wait for the water to boil, then add the broccoli florets. Cook them for 3 to 5 minutes. The broccoli is perfectly cooked when it can be easily pierced with a fork but is still firm. Drain the broccoli and rinse it with cold water to stop the cooking process.
-
Cut the bacon into strips. Place a pan on medium heat and fry the bacon strips on both sides until they are colored but not crispy. Transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess fat.
-
Preheat the oven to 220°C. Grease a deep baking dish. Grate the cheese and crack the eggs into a bowl, whisking them well with a hand whisk. Add the flour, cream, and milk. Season with black pepper, salt, and mustard. Finally, mix in one-third of the cheese.
-
Place the broccoli in the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly, and sprinkle with one-third of the cheese. Add the bacon strips, then pour the prepared egg mixture over everything. Use a fork to slightly move the broccoli florets so the mixture fills all the empty spaces between them. Finally, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Once the surface turns golden brown, cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to prevent the casserole from over-browning. Remove the dish from the oven, let the casserole settle, then cut it into pieces. Serve with a bowl of seasonal salad.
