Steps
-
Place a large pot of salted water on the stove. Clean the cabbage, wash it, and carefully remove 12 outer leaves. When the water boils, dip the leaves in the boiling water for a few minutes to soften them. Remove the leaves with a slotted spoon and drain them. Carefully cut off the thicker stems.
-
Peel and chop the garlic and onion. Prepare the sauce. Heat oil in a larger pot and sauté the chopped onion. Add the garlic and quickly sauté it to release its aroma. Transfer half of the mixture to a plate, and add tomato paste, pureed tomatoes, and water to the pot. Season with spices. Stir, cover the pot, and cook the sauce over medium heat for 15 minutes.
-
Prepare the filling. Peel and grate the carrot. Grate the cheese. Drain the beans, rinse them under running water, and drain again. In a bowl, mix the sautéed onion and garlic, beans, cheese, carrot, and spices, and mix everything well.
-
Preheat the oven to 175°C. Grease a deep baking dish. Spread the cabbage leaves on the work surface and fill them with the filling. Place the filling on the thicker part of the cabbage leaves, then roll them up. Tuck both ends of the roll inward so the filling doesn't escape during baking.
-
Place the rolls in the baking dish seam side down and pour the sauce over them. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Serve directly from the baking dish.
