Chicken Tikka Masala
Traditional Indian dishes are very spicy and full of various spices and herbs that create an explosion of flavors in the mouth. Chicken Tikka Masala is no exception, although it is not originally an Indian dish. However, it is certainly the most popular dish in Indian restaurants worldwide. There are countless recipes for preparing Tikka Masala, but all share two common ingredients - chicken and a spiced paste. The recipe we present below is one of the variations of this popular dish, where instead of making the spiced paste at home, we use a store-bought one, significantly shortening the preparation process.
Details
- Preparation Time: 10 minutes
- Cooking Time: 35 minutes
- Difficulty: 1
- Spiciness: 1
- Number of Servings: 4
Ingredients
-
3 spoons Oil, vegetable oil, canola
-
25 g Butter, unsalted
-
4 pieces Onion, raw
-
pieces Spices, curry powder
-
4 spoon Tomato, concentrate
-
700 g Meat, chicken, thighs
-
400 g Tomato sauce, without salt
-
250 g Yogurt, plain, from whole milk
-
0.25 bouquet Coriander, leaves, fresh
Steps
-
Peel the onion and chop it very finely (you can use an electric chopper for help). Wash the chicken and dry it well with paper towels. Cut it into approximately 2.5 cm pieces.
-
Place a large deep pan on the stove and heat the oil and butter in it. Add the onion and slowly fry it over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it softens and turns nicely brown. Mix the spiced paste and tomato concentrate into the fried onion and continue to fry for another 5 minutes, or until the spices are fragrant.
-
Add the chicken pieces to the pan. Stir well with a spoon to ensure all the pieces are well coated with the spices. Add the pureed tomatoes, mix everything well again, cover the pan, and simmer the dish for 15 to 20 minutes, or until all the chicken pieces are cooked through. Add a little water if needed.
-
Rinse the cilantro under running water, shake it dry, and chop it. Mix it together with the yogurt into the prepared dish, which is then served with your chosen side.

Advice
You can also make the Tikka Masala spiced paste yourself. In a mortar or electric grinder, finely grind 5 cloves of garlic, 1 piece of fresh ginger, 1 red or green chili without seeds, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 2 teaspoons of coriander seeds, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 2 teaspoons of garam masala, 1 teaspoon of paprika, the seeds from four cardamom pods, and a little water or vegetable oil (just enough to bind all the ingredients into a thick paste).
