Chinese New Year Dumplings
Chinese New Year dumplings, or "Jiaozi" as the Chinese call them, are eaten throughout the 15 days of the Chinese New Year celebration, as they are believed to bring wealth. The preparation is simple. They can be filled with various fillings, savory or sweet. Among the savory fillings, the most popular is a mixture of pork and green onions, but this recipe features sweet New Year dumplings.

Ingredients
Dough
-
200 g Flour, Wheat, bread flour
-
2 spoons Lard
-
2 spoons Oil, peanut
-
1 piece Egg, fresh
-
2 spoons Water
Filling
-
35 g Sesame seeds, roasted
-
75 g Peanuts, roasted in oil, unsalted
-
2 spoons Coconut, flakes
-
3 spoons Sugar, brown
-
0.5 l Oil, peanut
Steps
-
Finely chop or crush the peanuts. Combine all the filling ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
-
Place the dough ingredients in a bowl and knead them into a dough. Shape the prepared dough into a ball, place it in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 45 minutes.
-
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 3 mm. Cut out circles with a diameter of 6 to 7 cm from the dough. Use a glass or a round cookie cutter to help with this step.
-
Fill the dough circles with the filling and shape them into dumplings. To do this, place a dough circle in your left palm, then place a spoonful of filling in the center of the circle. Fold the circle in half to form a crescent and pinch the edge with your fingers, then stretch it slightly by pressing. Fold the edge inward to secure it and create a beautiful pattern (see picture).
-
Heat 0.5 liters of peanut oil in a deep pan or wok over medium heat and fry the dumplings until golden brown. Place the fried dumplings on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
-
Arrange the dumplings on a serving plate and serve them warm or cold.
