Chocolate American Pancakes
If youve ever had American pancakes, you know they are smaller, thicker, and fluffier compared to our traditional pancakes. These pancakes are also brown, as they are prepared with the addition of unsweetened cocoa powder. They are the perfect solution for anyone who craves something chocolatey in the morning.

Ingredients
-
pieces Butter, unsalted
-
40 g Cocoa, powdered, unsweetened
-
180 g Wheat flour, white, multi-purpose
-
90 g Sugar, white
-
1 teaspoon Baking powder
-
1 pinch Salt, table
-
120 ml Milk, whole milk
-
120 ml Whey, sour, liquid
-
2 piece Egg, fresh
-
3.5 spoons Oil, vegetable oil, canola
Steps
-
In a large bowl, sift the cocoa powder and mix it with sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
-
In another bowl, whisk together the milk, buttermilk, eggs, and oil. Pour the mixture into the well you made in the center of the dry ingredients. Quickly mix the ingredients to form a uniform batter (it's important not to overmix the batter, so it's okay if there are a few lumps). Let the batter rest for a few minutes.
-
Place a large skillet on the stove and heat it up. Add a piece of butter to the heated skillet and wait for it to melt. Tilt the skillet to evenly coat it with butter. Using a ladle, pour about 60 ml of batter into the skillet; if the skillet is large enough, you can pour batter for two or three pancakes. Use the back of a spoon to shape the batter into smaller pancakes, about 10 cm in diameter. After about 3 minutes, the bottom of the pancakes will be cooked, and bubbles will start to appear on the top. Carefully flip the pancakes with a spatula and cook the other side for about 2 minutes. Transfer the cooked pancakes to a warmed plate and cover them to keep them warm. Repeat the process until all the batter is used.
-
Serve the cooked pancakes on plates, drizzle with your favorite syrup, garnish with fresh fruit, and enjoy.

Advice
Instead of buttermilk, you can use liquid yogurt or milk with a teaspoon of lemon juice added.
