Ingredients
-
42 g Yeast, dry
-
125 g Sugar, white
-
250 ml Milk, skimmed
-
500 g Flour, Wheat, bread flour
-
1 bag Powdered sugar
-
200 g Butter, unsalted
-
2 pinch Salt, table
-
25 ml Alcohol, Rum
-
100 g Candied fruit
-
50 g Raisins
-
70 g Powdered sugar
-
50 g Butter, unsalted
Steps
-
In a separate bowl, crumble the yeast, add 1 tablespoon of sugar and 4 tablespoons of lukewarm milk, and mix everything until smooth. Let the yeast mixture rise for about 15 minutes. On the stove, place a small pot and melt the butter in it. In a larger bowl, sift the flour and add the vanilla sugar and the remaining sugar.
-
Slowly pour the remaining lukewarm milk into the bowl with the flour, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. Add the melted butter, a pinch of salt, rum, and the risen yeast. Knead all the ingredients into a smooth and non-sticky dough.
-
Chop the candied fruit into smaller pieces, and pick through, wash, and drain the raisins well. Sprinkle the candied fruit and raisins over the dough and knead the dough thoroughly once more. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes.
-
Turn the risen dough onto a lightly floured work surface and roll it into an elongated flat loaf. Fold one of the longer sides towards the center and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a baking pan lined with parchment paper and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius. Place the baking pan in the preheated oven for 60 minutes. Shortly before the end of baking, place a small pot on the stove and melt the butter in it. Brush the still-hot Christmas bread with the melted butter and let it cool.
-
Once cooled, sprinkle the Christmas bread with a thick layer of powdered sugar, slice it into individual pieces, arrange them on a platter, and serve to your guests.
