Cinnamon Snails from Puff Pastry
Cinnamon snails are a popular sweet treat worldwide, made from soft leavened dough that seems designed to be dipped into a warm beverage, which is how we usually enjoy this heavenly pastry. When youre short on time to prepare the dough, you can cheat a little and make the snails using store-bought puff pastry. They will still be light and soft, and most importantly, they will be ready in no time.

Ingredients
-
300 g Dough, puff
-
75 g Butter, unsalted
-
75 g Sugar, brown
-
2 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
1 piece Egg, fresh
-
2 spoons Milk, whole milk
Steps
-
In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, sugar, and cinnamon until smooth.
-
Unroll the puff pastry and, if necessary, roll it out a bit more to form a rectangle approximately 30 x 40 cm in size. Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly over the pastry, then roll it up into a log. Wrap the log in baking paper and refrigerate for 10 minutes to cool thoroughly. Roll it from the shorter side to make the log thicker.
-
Line a baking tray with baking paper. Using a sharp knife, cut the chilled log into 1.5 cm thick snails and arrange them on the tray. Gently flatten them with your palm so they spread out slightly. Place the tray with the snails in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
-
Before baking, brush the snails with a mixture of milk and beaten egg. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 18 to 20 minutes. They are done when they turn golden brown on top. Serve the pastry while it's still warm. Optionally, sprinkle with sugar (granulated or powdered) before serving.
