700 g Nuts, chestnut, fresh

Place the chestnuts in a large colander and quickly rinse them under running water. Then, make a cross-shaped incision on the rounded part of each chestnut. Be careful not to cut into the core of the fruit, only pierce the outer hard shell.

Place a pot with one and a half liters of lightly salted water on the stove. Add the incised chestnuts and cook them for about 40 minutes over moderate heat.

Once the chestnuts are cooked, peel them while still hot using a sharp knife. Serve the peeled chestnuts in a bowl and enjoy immediately or use them to prepare other dishes.

Advice
When cooking chestnuts, its good to check with the tip of a knife if the flesh is already soft. Chestnuts are easiest to peel while they are still warm and soaked in water. If left to cool completely in water, they can become quite soggy, but if the water is drained, they will start to dry out, making peeling more difficult and the chestnut more crumbly.
