Sticky date squares are even better if you hide them (even from yourself) for a day or two before serving.

Ingredients
-
230 g Margarine
-
100 g Sugar, brown
-
100 g Honey
-
230 g Date, fresh or dried
-
230 g Oat bran, raw
-
230 g Flour, Whole wheat
-
2 teaspoons Baking powder
-
450 g Apples, rose
-
4 spoon Juice, lemon
-
50 pieces Walnuts
Steps
-
Preheat the oven to 190 °C. Line a baking dish with parchment paper. Remove the pits from the dates and cut them into pieces. In a large bowl, melt the butter, sugar, honey, lemon juice, and dates together, stirring until the dates soften. Remove the bowl from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
-
Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Wash the apples, cut them into quarters, remove the cores, and grate them. Add the apples, date mixture, and oats to the bowl with the flour, and mix the ingredients by hand or with a mixer into a thick batter. Transfer the batter to the baking dish, smooth it out, and top with nuts.
-
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 170 °C and bake for another 10 minutes. The baked goods should have a nice, golden-brown color and feel firm to the touch. Remove the baked goods from the oven, cut them into squares while still warm, and let them cool completely.

Advice
If youre more patient, wait for the baked goods to cool almost completely, then wrap them in aluminum foil and store them for a day or two.
