-
220 g Sugar, brown
-
0.25 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
60 ml Juice, orange
-
30 ml Alcohol, Rum
Dough
-
3 pieces Egg, fresh
-
80 ml Milk, whole milk
-
80 ml Sweet cream
-
0.5 teaspoons Vanilla, extract, natural
-
1 teaspoon Alcohol, Liqueur, Crème de Menthe
-
1 pinch Salt, table
-
0.25 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
40 g Butter, unsalted
-
3 pieces Banana, fresh
-
8 slice Bread, wheat
-
1 handful Nuts, hazelnuts
-
pieces Yogurt, plain, from whole milk
Steps
-
Crack the eggs into a bowl. Add milk, cream, vanilla extract, orange liqueur, salt, and cinnamon, and mix the ingredients smoothly with a hand whisk.
-
Place a medium saucepan on the stove and melt the butter in it. Add sugar and stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Then add cinnamon, orange juice, and rum, and slowly bring the mixture to a boil over moderate heat. Once the sauce thickens, remove the saucepan from the heat.
-
Place a frying pan on the stove and melt a piece of butter in it. Dip the toast slices into the egg mixture and place them in the hot pan. Cook them over moderate heat for 2 minutes or until the bottom side is golden brown, then carefully flip them with a spatula and cook the other side. Transfer the cooked slices to a plate, and melt a new piece of butter in the pan. Repeat the process until all the slices are cooked.
-
Peel the bananas and slice them. Roughly chop the hazelnuts. Serve two pieces of French toast on each plate. Drizzle with caramel sauce, top with banana slices, and sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts. Optionally, add a spoonful of Greek yogurt or lightly whipped cream, and serve the dish immediately.

Advice
The toast slices need to be well soaked, but before placing them in the pan, drain them well to remove any excess mixture.
