Steps
-
First, prepare the dough for the bread. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Pour in warm milk and mix the ingredients with your fingers or a fork until they come together into a ball. If needed, add a bit more flour. Then, transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it well until it becomes smooth and elastic and no longer sticks to your hands or the surface. Shape the kneaded dough into a ball, place it in a bowl, and cover it. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
-
While the dough is resting, prepare the meat chili. In heated oil, sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add the garlic and cook it with the onion for half a minute, then add the ground meat. Season with pepper and salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat pieces are nicely browned and cooked through. Use a spatula to break up any larger pieces into smaller chunks.
-
Pour off any excess fat from the pan, season the meat with chili powder, paprika, and cumin, then mix in the rinsed and drained beans, tomatoes, and chopped chili. Cover the pan and let the dish simmer gently for 10 to 15 minutes, or until it thickens.
-
Pour oil into a deep pan, enough to reach about 2.5 cm high. While waiting for it to heat up, take a palm-sized piece of dough, shape it into a ball, then stretch it out as thinly as possible into a large circle. Fry it in the hot oil until golden brown on both sides. Drain the fried bread on paper towels. Repeat the process until all the dough is used.
-
Place the meat chili on the fried bread. Add chopped vegetables and grated cheese, and if desired, a spoonful of sour cream. Serve the prepared snack immediately.
