Ingredients
Decoration
-
1 bag Sugar, white
-
1 handful Sugar, white
Dough
-
1 kg Honey
-
0.25 l Water
-
650 g Rye flour
-
600 g Wheat flour, white, multi-purpose
-
100 g Candied fruit
-
40 g Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
30 g Baking powder
Glaze
-
2 spoons Juice, lemon
-
1 piece Egg, egg white, fresh
-
300 g Powdered sugar
Steps
-
Place a pot on the stove and bring honey and water to a boil. Then let the honey mixture cool. Sift the flour onto a surface and sprinkle it with candied lemon and orange peel, then add gingerbread spices. Mix everything quickly.
-
Make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the almost cooled honey. Use clean hands to knead all the ingredients into a smooth dough. Finally, knead in the baking soda. Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a bowl, cover it, and store it for a day or two.
-
Grease two baking sheets and preheat the oven to 200°C. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 1 cm. Cut out 6 symmetrical and arbitrarily sized pieces that will be used for the roof and outer parts of the house. In the pieces that will form the house structure, you can cut out openings for windows and/or doors. Also cut out 4 smaller pieces for the chimney.
-
Carefully place the pieces on the baking sheet and prick the dough several times with a fork. Bake in the oven for about 20-30 minutes until the dough turns golden brown. Once baked, transfer the pieces to a wire rack to cool. Meanwhile, make a thick icing using lemon juice, egg whites, and powdered sugar. Fill a piping bag with the prepared icing.
-
Assemble the cooled house pieces using the icing. Work slowly and wait for the icing to dry completely before attaching the remaining parts. Use the icing to attach Smarties candies to the roof and decorate the outer walls with gummy candies.
-
Use the remaining icing to decorate the edges of the roof, as shown in the picture. If you cut out windows, outline them with the icing. Let your imagination run free!

Advice
The icing used to decorate the house should not be too thin, as it will cause the house to fall apart.
