Ingredients
-
370 g Flour, Wheat, bread flour
-
1 bag Yeast, dry
-
0.75 teaspoons Salt, table
-
1 dl Milk, whole milk
-
3 pieces Egg, fresh
-
180 g Butter, unsalted
-
2 spoons Sugar, white
-
1 piece Egg, fresh
-
pieces Spices, poppy
Steps
-
Sift the flour into a bowl and mix it with salt, sugar, and dry yeast. Add lukewarm milk, beaten eggs, and melted butter. Knead the ingredients into a smooth and soft, yet compact dough, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.
-
Divide the risen dough into three roughly equal parts. Take one piece of dough and cut it into three parts. Roll each part on a lightly floured surface into equal-length ropes, with thinner ends and a thicker middle. Join the ropes at the top and braid them into a plait or braid. Place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Repeat the process with the remaining dough pieces. Cover the plaits with a clean cloth and let them rise in a warm place for 30 minutes before baking.
-
While the plaits are rising, preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Before baking, brush them with beaten egg and generously sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and are nicely baked.
