Ingredients
-
15 g Butter, unsalted
-
800 g Potatoes, white
-
70 g Butter, unsalted
-
3 pieces Onion, raw
-
0.75 teaspoons Salt, table
-
0.25 teaspoons Spices, pepper, black
-
0.5 teaspoons Spices, thyme, dried
Steps
-
Preheat the oven to 190 °C. Peel and wash the potatoes. Slice them thinly and keep them in cold water until use. Grease a baking dish with butter. Peel the onion, cut it in half, and slice it into thin pieces. Melt butter in a pan and sauté the onion for 5 to 7 minutes until it softens and becomes translucent. Be careful not to let it brown.
-
Drain the potatoes and dry them with a cloth. Place a layer of potatoes at the bottom of the baking dish, season with salt and pepper. Add a thin layer of onion, spreading it evenly over the potatoes. Repeat the process until all the ingredients are used up. Finish with a layer of potatoes, sprinkled with a bit of dried thyme.
-
Pour the remaining butter from the pan over the potatoes. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, until the potatoes soften.
-
After 45 minutes of baking, remove the foil and bake the dish for another 15 minutes, or until the potatoes turn golden brown.
