Limoncello is a popular Italian liqueur made from strong spirits, sugar, and lemon zest. It is an excellent digestif, as it aids in digestion. Serve it straight from the freezer after a meal.

Ingredients

10 pieces Lemon zest, fresh

1 l Alcohol, Brandy

1 l Water

500 g Sugar, white

Wash the lemons thoroughly under running water (scrub them with a kitchen brush if necessary) and dry them completely. Then, thinly peel them (see warnings). Place the zest in a large jar for infusion and pour alcohol over it. Seal the jar tightly and let it sit in a dark place for 10 to 14 days.

Prepare the sugar syrup. Mix sugar and water in a saucepan. Place the saucepan on the stove and heat while stirring until all the sugar dissolves. Once the syrup becomes clear, remove the saucepan from the heat.

Strain the alcohol through a fine sieve lined with cheesecloth. Discard the zest and mix the strained alcohol with the sugar syrup. Pour the liquid into clean bottles and seal them tightly. Store the bottles in the refrigerator or freezer.

Advice
Limoncello can also be used in dessert preparation. Drizzle it over fruit salads or add it to cakes, creams, and pastries. Use organic lemons for making limoncello, ensuring their zest is not treated with harmful pesticides. When peeling the zest, be careful to use only the colored part, as the white part can make the liqueur bitter. Instead of pure alcohol, you can use vodka.
