Ingredients
-
230 g Butter, unsalted
-
200 g Sugar, white
-
4 pieces Egg, fresh
-
1 teaspoon Vanilla, extract, imitation
-
180 g Wheat flour, white, multi-purpose
-
1 teaspoon Baking powder
-
0.5 teaspoons Salt, table
-
100 g Chocolate spread, with hazelnuts
-
3 spoons Cocoa, powdered, unsweetened
-
0.5 spoons Butter, unsalted
for glaze
- 80 g chocolate, dark
Steps
-
Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius and set the rack to the middle height. Grease a deep rectangular baking dish (approximately 23 x 13 cm) well with butter.
-
In a suitably large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar. Then gradually (one after the other) mix in the eggs. Mix each egg for about 30 seconds. Finally, add the vanilla flavoring.
-
In another bowl, sift the flour and mix it with baking powder and salt. First, mix 1/3 of the flour into the egg-butter mixture, then add the remaining flour in two parts.
-
Divide the batter into two parts. Add Nutella and cocoa powder to one part and mix well to get a uniform batter. First, pour the light batter into the greased baking dish, then add the dark batter. Mix the batter with a fork to create a pattern. (Be careful not to overmix!).
-
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes. The cake is baked when the surface turns golden brown, and a toothpick inserted into the batter comes out clean.
-
Cool the baked cake in the baking dish for about 15 minutes, then remove it from the dish and let it cool completely on a rack.
-
Coarsely chop the chocolate for the glaze and melt it in a water bath (see tips). Transfer the cooled cake to a serving plate or platter, pour the melted chocolate over it, and serve.

Advice
Take the butter out of the refrigerator at least one hour before preparation to soften it. A water bath is used for melting and dissolving delicate foods and ingredients or for frothy mixing (especially for preparing various sauces and creams). Place a heatproof container with the ingredients on another container with hot water and whisk the ingredients in the upper container with a whisk until they thicken and froth. The water in the lower container should not boil vigorously! Vanilla flavoring or extract can be made at home.
