Meat and Sauerkraut Pie
If you dont feel like making a flaky dough, you can also use store-bought dough, but make sure it doesnt contain sugar. You can also omit the dough if you prefer, as the combination of sauerkraut, ground meat, and a juicy cream sauce is the main highlight of this delicious homemade dish. In both cases, we recommend serving it with a bowl of salad on the side.

Steps

Sift the flour into a bowl and mix it with salt. Add the butter, cut into cubes, and rub it into the dry ingredients with your fingertips. Lift the mixture as you work to make it airy and crumbly. Add the beaten egg and cold water, then quickly knead everything together into a dough. Shape it into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 60 minutes.

Peel and finely chop the onion. Cut the bacon into pieces, and place the sauerkraut in a colander. If it seems too sour, rinse it quickly under running water and drain well.

Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onion and bacon. Add the ground meat and cumin, and cook over medium heat until the meat pieces are lightly browned. Stir in the drained sauerkraut and cook for a few more minutes, stirring occasionally. Season the filling lightly with pepper and salt. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a pie dish (remove any excess flour). Take the dough out of the refrigerator and roll it out into a circle about 3 mm thick. Transfer it to the prepared dish using a rolling pin. Gently press it against the bottom and sides of the dish with your fingers, and prick the bottom several times with a fork. Spread the cooled meat and vegetable filling over the dough.

Mix the sour cream with the eggs, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the filling. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
