Mečkanka or Gužvara (Cheese Pie)
Gužvara could be humorously called the quick pie of lazy wives. Its preparation is very fast and simple, as we only need store-bought phyllo dough sheets, which we crumple and dip into a mixture of eggs, sour cream, yogurt, and crumbled cheese. Since gužvara is also very good the next day, we can prepare it the day before and take it to work for a snack or lunch.

Ingredients
-
500 g Dough, wonton
-
5 pieces Egg, fresh
-
400 g Cheese, feta
-
250 g Sour cream
-
400 g Yogurt, plain, from whole milk
-
150 ml Milk, whole milk
-
100 ml Oil, vegetable oil, canola
-
pieces Salt, table
-
pieces Oil, vegetable oil, canola
Steps
-
Grease a baking dish (approximately 35 x 25 centimeters) well with oil. In a larger bowl, mix together the eggs, crumbled cheese, oil, milk, sour cream, and yogurt. Season the mixture to taste with salt and ground pepper.
-
Place 3-4 sheets of dough in the greased baking dish so that they slightly overlap at the bottom and hang over the sides of the dish. The dough hanging over the sides will be used to cover the gužvara at the end.
-
Take a new sheet of dough and dip it into the prepared raw mixture, then gently crumple it into a ball with your hands and place it in the baking dish. Repeat the process until you have two sheets of dough left. The crumpled sheets should fill the entire baking dish, and it's important that the dough is well soaked with the mixture. If there is any mixture left, pour it over the crumpled sheets.
-
Cover the crumpled sheets with the reserved sheets and grease them with oil. Fold over the dough that is hanging over the sides of the dish. Also, grease this dough well with oil.
-
Bake the gužvara in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius for 45 to 50 minutes. It is done when the top turns golden brown and is baked through. Let it rest for a few minutes before cutting it into pieces. Serve with yogurt and/or a bowl of salad, and the pie cut into smaller pieces is also an excellent side dish for roasted meat.
