Ingredients
-
2 teaspoons Oil, vegetable oil, canola
-
4 pieces Onion, raw
-
3 pods Garlic, fresh
-
1 kg Meat, beef, ground
-
1 piece Spices, bay (leaves)
-
1 bouquet Parsley, fresh
-
1 dl Water
-
1 pinch Salt, table
-
1 kg Potatoes, white
-
0.5 kg Sauerkraut
glaze
-
1 piece Egg, fresh
-
pieces Sour cream
-
0.5 dl Milk, whole milk
Steps
-
Finely chop the garlic and onion and sauté them in oil. Add a bay leaf, ground meat, and chopped parsley, and cook over moderate heat until all the meat pieces are nicely browned. Add a little water if needed. Season with pepper and salt (be careful with the salt, as the sauerkraut added later is also salty).
-
While the meat is cooking, peel and wash the potatoes. Slice them into thin rounds. Drain the sauerkraut well.
-
In a greased deep baking dish, first layer a layer of potatoes and cover it with a layer of meat. Follow with a layer of drained sauerkraut, another layer of meat, and finally another layer of potatoes.
-
Bake the moussaka in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius for 10 to 15 minutes, then take it out and pour over a mixture of egg, milk, and cream. Bake until the top is nicely golden brown.
