Wash the basil and shake off excess water, then remove the leaves from the stems. Wash the chili pepper and remove the stem and seeds. Chop the olives and chili pepper into smaller pieces, checking to ensure no pits remain in the olives.

Using a food processor or immersion blender, blend the olives, chili pepper, basil leaves, pine nuts, and olive oil into a smooth spread. Transfer the spread to a serving bowl and serve with freshly toasted bread.
