Ingredients
-
2 spoons Oil, vegetable oil, canola
-
850 g Potatoes, white
-
400 g Spinach, raw
-
150 g Meat, pork, smoked bacon
-
300 ml Sour cream
-
1 teaspoon Salt, table
-
0.25 teaspoons Spices, pepper, black
-
2 pinch Spices, mace, ground
-
50 g Cheese, Parmesan, grated
Steps
-
Wash the potatoes thoroughly (peel them if necessary), place them in a large pot, and cover with cold water. The water should be about two fingers above the potatoes. Place the pot on the stove, lightly salt the water, and bring the potatoes to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat, cover the pot, and cook the potatoes for another 15 minutes. When the potatoes are still slightly firm (check with a sharp knife), drain them and let them cool slightly.
-
Place a large pot of water on the stove. Clean and wash the spinach. Once the water boils, add the spinach and cook it just until it wilts and softens. Then drain it well and let it cool.
-
Heat one tablespoon of oil in a large pan and fry the bacon pieces until crispy, stirring occasionally. Transfer the fried bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess fat.
-
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Squeeze the spinach well and place it in a bowl. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix well to ensure the spinach is evenly seasoned. Peel the potatoes and slice them into approximately 0.5 cm thick slices.
-
Grease a deep ovenproof dish with oil. Cover the bottom of the dish with half of the potato slices. Lightly season the potato layer with salt and pepper if desired. Spread the spinach over the potatoes and sprinkle the bacon pieces on top. Finish with the remaining potato slices, lightly seasoning them with salt and pepper if desired. Pour the cream over the layered dish, then sprinkle grated cheese on top. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown on top.

Advice
Instead of sour cream, you can use cooking cream or a mix of sweet and sour cream. Instead of Parmesan, you can use another cheese (Gouda, Edam, Gruyère, etc.).
