Ingredients
Filling
-
200 g Walnuts
-
2 bags Sugar, white
-
0.5 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground
-
pieces Orange, shell
-
120 ml Milk, whole milk
-
300 g Dough, puff
-
pieces Powdered sugar
Premaz
-
1 piece Egg, egg yolk, fresh
-
pieces Milk, whole milk
Steps
-
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Line a low baking tray with baking paper.
-
Grind the walnuts and mix them with vanilla sugar and ground cinnamon. If desired, add a bit of grated orange zest for flavor and aroma.
-
Heat the milk until it almost boils, then pour it over the walnuts. Mix well to form a thick paste-like mixture. Let the filling cool to lukewarm.
-
Unroll the puff pastry and cut it lengthwise into four equal, narrow, and long rectangles. Spread the cooled walnut filling evenly on the inner rectangles. Then place the outer (unfilled) rectangles on top of the filled ones – each on its own.
-
You will have two rectangles, which you then cut lengthwise into narrow strips. Optionally, cut these strips in half to make shorter sticks.
-
Take each strip by both ends with your fingers and twist it three to four times to form rolled sticks. Place them on the baking tray, leaving a little space between them as they will spread slightly during baking.
-
Before baking, brush the sticks with a mixture of beaten egg yolk and milk (use a brush for this). Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes until they puff up and turn golden brown.
-
Serve the rolled sticks while still warm, and optionally dust them with powdered sugar. They are also excellent when cooled before serving.
