Sift the flour, spices, and baking powder into a large bowl and mix. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the flour in thirds, kneading well with the butter each time. If the dough is too dry, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water.

Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 2 mm thickness and cut it into rectangular cookies with a sharp knife. Carefully place them on the baking sheets. Place a few almond slices on each cookie, pressing them lightly into the dough.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 5 to 7 minutes until golden brown. Cool them on a wire rack. Serve the cooled cookies on plates and enjoy.

Advice
To prepare original speculaas cookies, you need special molds into which you press the dough, and then bake the shaped cookies in the oven. Take the butter out of the refrigerator at least one hour before use.
