Sponge Cake
A proper sponge cake for a torte should be soft and moist, beautifully baked, and free of lumps and poorly mixed flour in the center. We offer you a recipe that was used by contestants in the 4th season of Slovenia.

Ingredients

6 pieces Egg, fresh

150 g Sugar, white

180 g Wheat flour, white, multi-purpose

9 g Baking powder

Whisk the egg yolks and half of the sugar until frothy. Beat the egg whites and the other half of the sugar into stiff peaks.

Add the sifted flour with baking powder to the egg yolks and mix. Gently and slowly fold the beaten egg whites into the mixture in two or three batches.

Line the bottom of a round cake pan with parchment paper, and grease and flour the sides. Pour the sponge cake batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula, smoothing the top. Bake the sponge cake for about 20 minutes in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius.
