Three Kings Cake
A cake served on January 6th, the day when the Three Kings are believed to have visited the newborn Jesus in Bethlehem. In the dough, South Americans hide a small porcelain figurine representing Jesus.

Ingredients

0.25 cups Milk, whole milk

1 cube Yeast, dry

5 cup Flour, Wheat, bread flour

1 cup Sugar, white

0.25 teaspoons Salt, table

1.5 teaspoons Spices, cinnamon, ground

0.5 teaspoons Spices, caraway, seeds

4 pieces Egg, fresh

0.75 cups Butter, unsalted

4 spoon Vanilla, extract, natural

2 spoons Orange, shell

200 g Candied fruit
sprinkle
- 0.3 cups Sugar, white
Steps

Prepare the dough using the ingredients, following the recipe for leavened dough used for potica. Shape the kneaded dough into a roll and form it into a ring. Press the ends together firmly to seal.

Grease a baking dish. Cut the candied fruit into strips. Carefully place the dough ring onto the baking dish. Arrange the candied fruit on top of the ring to create a pattern (see photo). Let the cake rise in a warm place for another hour.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Beat the egg with a whisk and brush it over the cake. Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. The cake is done when it turns golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Cool it on a wire rack, then transfer to a serving plate, slice, and serve.
