Turkish Rings

Ingredients

1 bag Yeast, dry

2.5 cups Wheat flour, white, multi-purpose

2 teaspoons Spices, cloves, ground

1 cup Water

1 teaspoon Salt, table

3 spoons Oil, vegetable oil, canola

5 spoon Sugar, white

1 piece Egg, fresh

1 handful Sesame seeds, dried

In a large bowl, sift the flour and add yeast, warm water, and ground cloves. Knead everything together into a smooth dough. You can also use a hand mixer (use the spiral attachments). Let the dough rest in an uncovered bowl for about 15 minutes.

Add oil, salt, and sugar to the flour and yeast mixture and knead everything together well again. Once the dough is ready, transfer it to a lightly floured work surface and knead thoroughly to dissolve the salt and sugar. The prepared dough should be smooth and slightly sticky.

Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a warm, clean bowl. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rest for about 2 hours to rise.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly oil it. Then divide the dough into two parts. Roll out one part of the dough into a rectangle, then roll it lengthwise into a log. Roll the log with your hands to stretch it to a length of 60 cm. Join and press the ends together to form a ring and place it on the prepared baking tray. Repeat the process with the other half of the dough.

Cover the prepared rings with a kitchen towel and let them rest for about 45-60 minutes to triple in size.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a pinch of salt and brush the mixture over both rings. Sprinkle them with sesame seeds, then place the baking tray in the oven. Bake the rings for about 30 minutes until they turn golden brown.

Let the baked rings cool on a wire rack, then transfer them to a serving plate and serve at the table.
