Turnip and Potato Mash
A traditional Scottish dish, known as Orkney clapshot. It is named after the Orkney Islands. It is often served with haggis (a type of sausage similar to blood sausage).

Ingredients

450 g Turnip

450 g Potatoes, white

100 g Meat, pork, smoked bacon

60 g Butter, unsalted

0.5 teaspoons Salt, table

1 pinch Spices, pepper, white

Wash the potatoes and turnips, peel them, and wash them again. Cut all the vegetables into smaller pieces and place them in a pot. Add enough cold water to cover the vegetables by two fingers, add salt, and place on the stove. Wait for it to boil, then reduce the heat and cook for another 20 minutes.

Cut the bacon into thin and narrow slices. Heat a pan with a little oil and fry the bacon while stirring for 5 minutes. The bacon should be crispy and browned.

Drain the cooked potatoes and turnips and transfer them to a bowl. Add butter and pepper, and immediately mash the hot vegetables until you get a smooth mash without lumps.

Divide the mash onto plates and sprinkle with the fried bacon. Serve.
