Wheat Bread
White bread made from wheat flour once held a special value, as it was a measure of higher social status and prosperity. Poorer people could only afford it on special occasions. At that time, it represented the best dish or even a kind of "dessert". Today, however, we can enjoy it every day!

Ingredients

1 kg Flour, Wheat, bread flour

40 g Yeast, dry

7 dl Water

20 g Sugar, white

18 g Salt, table
Steps

In a small bowl, crumble the yeast with a fork and mix it with one tablespoon of flour, sugar, and 1 dl of lukewarm water to create a starter. Let the starter rise in a warm place.

Sift the remaining flour into a larger bowl and make a well in the center. Salt the flour around the edges, pour the starter and lukewarm water into the well. Knead the dough from all the ingredients. Start kneading by first mixing all the ingredients with your hand, then transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it with both hands. Knead the dough until it separates nicely from the surface and your hands.

Shape the kneaded dough into a ball, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 to 40 minutes.

Shape the risen dough into a loaf or roll and let it rise again in a greased baking pan (or on a baking sheet).

Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Score the risen dough two or three times on top with a knife, place it in the oven, and bake for 50 to 60 minutes. After about 10 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 180 degrees Celsius. For a nicer shine and softer crust, you can brush the dough with lukewarm water before baking or place a small, low container of water at the bottom of the oven.

Place the baked bread on a wire rack, cover it with a cloth, and wait for it to cool.
