Steps

Grind the rye coarsely using a mill and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. Rinse the blanched watercress and drain it. Wash the apple, remove the core, and grate it finely. Peel the horseradish and also grate it finely. Drain the rye and mix it with the apple, lemon juice, and horseradish. Add sour milk to the mixture and mix everything well.

Slice the whole grain French loaf into 8 slices and spread the prepared mixture on them. Place a slice of ham on each slice of bread and garnish with watercress. Arrange the bread bites on a platter and serve to guests.
