Ingredients
-
250 g Flour, Whole wheat
-
pieces Salt, table
-
2.5 spoons Oil, vegetable oil, canola
-
150 ml Water
Steps
-
In a bowl, add the flour and mix it with salt. Pour in the oil and rub it into the flour with your fingertips. Then, add hot water to the bowl and mix the ingredients with a spoon just enough to combine them. Knead the dough well until it becomes soft and pliable and doesn't stick to your hands (if the dough is too wet, add a bit more flour; if it's too dry, add a bit more hot water). Shape the kneaded dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
-
Divide the dough into eight parts and shape them into balls. Cover the balls with a damp cloth and let them rest for 10 minutes.
-
Flatten the balls slightly with your palm and roll them out on a lightly floured surface into a very thin, round "pancake" (while rolling, turn the dough slightly clockwise, and after every third turn, flip it to the other side).
-
Heat a heavy-bottomed pan. To check if it's hot enough, drop a bit of water onto it. If the water sizzles and bounces, the pan is hot enough.
-
Place the tortilla in the pan. Cook for 30 seconds until it starts to bubble, then flip it and cook for another 30 seconds on the other side. Be careful not to overcook it, as it can become hard and dry. Repeat the process until all the tortillas are cooked.

Advice
Instead of oil, you can use vegetable fat or lard. If you want to store the baked tortillas, place layers of parchment paper between them. Store them in a sealed plastic bag. They can last in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. Tortillas are an excellent side dish for spicy Mexican meals. Serve them hot instead of bread, and you can also use them to make warm or cold wraps.
